Château Soutard is a St Emilion Grand Cru Classé just on the outskirts of the town of St Emilion. It borders on Château Larmande and makes tasty and full St Emilion.
- 2015 Deep and saturated colour; ripe black fruits, lifted but with life; nice creamy cassis notes; this works well; no over-ripeness; good palate with depth and some minerality; will meld well. Good wine. Inky finish. Lots here. [62% Merlot, 28% Cabernet Franc, 7% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Malbec]. Drink 2020-2030. 91-93+
- 2014 Mid depth; ripe aromatice; some jam and red fruits; lift; cooler palate; depth; more in the middle than expected; substance; extract; this should settle nicely. Good effort. Tasted UGC 1st April ’15. Drink 2020-2028. 87-89+
- 2013 Deep and dark; plums, spices; lifted and attractive; pretty; palate quite cool, not overdone; little ink and plum with spices; chew on the finish so needs to settle a bit. [63% Merlot, 28% Cabernet Franc, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Malbec] Tasted April 2, 2014 UGC. Drink 2016-2025. 85-87
- 2012 Very deep and saturated; deep aromas; plums, spices; pretty unctuous; oak too; full and lush entry; lots of fruit; not over-extracted but pretty big. Some chew at the back. Should be very good. 89-91+ UGC Wednesday April 10, 2013
- 2011 Mid depth; some plums, spices and cooler, fresher and better for it; plummy palate, attractive and some spice; not at all overdone. Others here could learn from this freshness and purity [Soutard St Emilion’s new recruit to the UGC]. This could be good value. Nice purity and not overdone. 70% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc. Tasted at UGC. 90-91
- 2010 Deep and thick looking: ripe and saturated aromas, quite seductive; layers here and lots of fruit; saturated fruit in keeping with the nose; lots and lots of fruit; very saturated but tannins feel nicely handled. Very good effort. 91+
