Bordeaux 2014: Château La Conseillante
This beautiful Pomerol property neighbours Vieux Château Certan and L’Evangile on the border with St Emilion [with Cheval Blanc and La Dominique just across the road]. Château La Conseillante has produced a caressing 2014, that has a pretty satin quality to the fruit. The owners feel that the wine exhibits more power than 2012 and greater aromatic profile than 2006. It is an impressive effort. There is concentration and depth here, showing just how the vintage’s Indian summer saved the day.
With just 10.5ha in production here there will be around 3500 cases of the grand vin, 450 cases of Duo de Conseillante, the second wine produced in this vintage. The following notes were taken on a visit to taste the wines at the property on April 3, 2015.
Duo de Conseillante, Pomerol, 2014
Nice earthy look; purple at edge; fruit and spices; some violet lift; pretty; some jam; soft; nice creamy style; balancing acidity; some flesh but also nice balance. [90% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, 13% alc, pH3.62, TA 3.8, 65% new oak]. Tasted at La Conseillante, 3rd April ’15. Drink 2019-2025. 87-89.
Château La Conseillante, Pomerol, 2014
Good depth of colour; vibrant edge; lovely pretty fruit; caressing and satiny; beautiful fruit in fact; quite measured on the palate; lovely elegance; glossy, balanced and textured on the palate; tension too [some freshness]; proportional wine; acidity fresh and good length. Attractive La Conseillante. [78% Merlot, 22% Cabernet Franc, 13.5% alc, 3.6 TA, 15-18 months in oak]. Tasted at La Conseillante, 3rd April ’15. Drink 2019-2030. 93-94+
